Children learn quickly and are generally attracted and motivated to learn if the French lesson is performed in a relaxing and fun atmosphere. Taking the French classes for kids via Zoom or Microsoft Teams is exciting because kids love to use the computer and enjoy the real time interaction!
The sooner the child is exposed to language learning, the quicker they will learn and stay motivated to learn foreign languages. Studies have shown — and experience has supported — that children who learn a language before the onset of adolescence are much more likely to have native-like pronunciation.

Length of the French lessons for children

For kids from 5 years old to 7 years old:

30-minute lessons on Zoom or Microsoft Teams, with an experienced French native teacher. The lessons are followed with a bit of homework (optional if parent prefers no homework). We offer 30-minute lessons in our French for Kids General course. 

For kids from 8 years old to 14 years old

40-minute lessons on Zoom or Microsoft Teams with an experienced French tutor. The lessons are followed with a bit of homework (optional if parent prefers no homework). We offer 40-minute lessons in our French for Kids General, PRIM and CNED courses.

Note: there is flexibility for the length of the class. For example, if your child is 7 years old but has studied some French for a while, then we can consider a 40-minute lesson. This will be discussed during the first meeting with the Language Advisor.

How does a French lesson for kids works?

The teacher will prepare the lesson according to the age, the level and the language objectives. We work with a few different methods such as Cap Sur, and Les Petits Loustics. In addition to these methods, the teacher will bring in other activities to make the lesson dynamic, interesting, and fun. Through games, pictures, drawings, small role plays, songs, videos and more, the teacher will keep the student’s attention in a fun and relaxing atmosphere during the entire lesson.

After the lesson, the teacher will send the notes of the lesson in addition to the homework to the parent and/or student.

French for Kids General Course:

Cap Sur 1 et 2 for the younger ones and beginners – An online method that can be used for children starting at 5 years old and for beginners who are older.

Cap Sur is a new method, built on the story of a family who decides to go on a trip around the different French-speaking countries. These books offer content close to the children’s universe, a playful dimension and a progressive approach and all the essential ingredients for a successful learning of French! Les Petits Loustics  – A method young kids, usually for 5, 6 years old which includes a book and a CD……
‘Les petits Loustics’ is a method suitable for the youngest children, especially for those who cannot yet read and write. The emphasis is on oral expression, using very simple songs and pictures. With Les petits Loustics, we listen, talk, sing and repeat a lot. Available in paper version only. See more details here

Imogen my daughter (20yrs old) has been having Skype French lessons with Learn French at Home since May 2009 ( when she was 12) ! She started them in middle school as she was struggling with French ( a compulsory IB component). The Skype lessons allowed her to gain the confidence to learn the vocabulary and also speak French in a non threatening environment. She went from a C to an A in months and maintained this grade throughout her high school years with the support of your school and the French tuition. Having Skype lessons meant Imogen was able to have the classes at home, which are significantly more flexible than face to face classes. Audrey and Imogen have developed such a lovely relationship over the years and after high school Imogen went to visit Audrey and met face to face. She has continued to take Skype tuition with Audrey as a university student for the past 2 years and has found her to be an amazing support at this higher level. From learning the basics to translating the French constitution, the tuition has afforded Imogen with the support to understand and use her French, but more importantly to develop a love of the language, the culture and the people. She has made several trips to France over the years and she loves being able to put all her hard work into practice. She has even been accepted into an Erasmus year abroad in a French university. For Xmas my parents gave  Skype French tuition classes as a present to Imogen and have been delighted to be able to give a present that keeps on giving and one that made such an impact. One year she and my mother even spent time in Paris together with Imogen acting as the translator. This gave enormous pleasure to them both. I have passed on the details for Audrey to numerous other people and all have found her to be an excellent resource and a wonderful support.
