Learn in a unique setting, in a 17th century building in the historic city center of Rennes. Discover the city with its beautiful half-timbered houses, lively cafés and rich cultural heritage. Over 4 full days, you’ll immerse yourself in the French language through interactive group activities in a beautiful historic setting. You’ll practise your speaking skills in real-life contexts, build confidence in expressing yourself in French, and deepen your understanding of French culture. The programme also includes several cultural outings around the city, giving you the chance to put your French into practice beyond the classroom while discovering the city’s rich heritage and local way of life.

This unique French immersion experience is designed and led by the founders and teaching team of Learn French at Home: Learn French at Home, and editors of our French learning publication: French Accent Magazine. 

We’re delighted to have Élise from our team of teachers, a local from Rennes, as one of the event’s main instructors. Her in-depth knowledge of the city and its culture will bring the language, history and unique character of Rennes to life, offering you an authentic and enriching French immersion experience. 

Many hours are spent preparing the activities to ensure an interesting and fun experience for each participant. Most of the activities are organised in small groups and they are all performed in a very positive and friendly environment.

For the ones who wish to continue to socialise in French in some of the evenings, they will have the option to join us for dinner in one of the restaurants in town.

Who is this event for?

This French Immersion Retreat is for intermediate French level students.

At this level, you already have learned the past tenses (imparfait, passé composé, plus que parfait), the future tenses as well as the conditional one and you wish to practise them in context. You know how to ask and answer questions on personal details, make requests, and hold basic conversations on familiar topics. You can describe situations, make suggestions and give directions.
Most of the  activities are organized by groups and we create them according to the student’s French level.

During this workshop, lessons and activities will include the following:

• Interactive grammar lessons designed to build confidence and develop practical communication skills.
• Vocabulary and verbs for describing what you see, hear and feel, as well as expressing thoughts, opinions and suggestions.
• Everyday French expressions and authentic language used in daily life.
• Listening and comprehension activities based on real-life French.
• A visit to France’s largest market, the Marché des Lices, with a practical mission to develop your speaking skills in real-life situations.
• Discussions about French culture and customs, with a focus on Rennes and its revolutionary spirit.
• Guided city tours and comprehension activities exploring the different facets of Rennes and its rich history.
• A guided visit to the stunning Parlement de Bretagne.
• Discovering the influence of the Odorico family and their Art Deco mosaics throughout the city.
• Opportunities to socialise in a variety of settings, including an aperitif on a barge, lunches at different restaurants, and meals in a beautiful event venue.

The workshop will take place at l’Eclozr, a stunning event venue housed in the historic 17th-century Hôtel de Marbeuf, one of Rennes’ listed historic monuments. You’ll enjoy your French lessons in a beautiful, comfortable room that blends historic charm with a welcoming atmosphere. During breaks, step outside to relax and recharge in the building’s magnificent courtyard.

Not only will you improve your French, but you’ll also enjoy an unforgettable getaway in the heart of Brittany—one of France’s most distinctive and culturally rich regions. Rennes offers an ideal setting for language immersion: lively, welcoming and authentically French, with a unique blend of medieval heritage, Breton traditions and contemporary energy.

As we will explore the city, you will practise your French naturally at the lively Marché des Lices, one of France’s largest and most renowned markets, at shops and restaurants. We will guide you through the beautiful pedestrian historic centre, where colourful half-timbered houses line charming streets and elegant squares. Our itinerary will also include the impressive Parlement de Bretagne. 

A visit to Rennes wouldn’t be complete without savoring authentic Breton crêpes and galettes, sampling delicious local cider, and exploring the city’s charming cafés, traditional crêperies, and excellent restaurants. It’s the perfect opportunity to experience the flavors and culinary traditions of Brittany!

Payment conditions:

4-day workshop payment schedule:
Deposit of 50% of the total price at registration. The remaining payment will be due beginning of August 2027.
An invoice will be sent to you at that time.

Cancellation policy:

4-day workshop: the deposit is 100% fully refundable before July 15th 2027. After that date, the deposit is non refundable.
After July 15th 2027, the full workshop price is not refundable, but it can be transferred to another person.
