For intermediate French levels 

Improve your French speaking and comprehension skills in one of the most attractive cities on the west coast of France. Learn in a classroom in a stunning 16th century building in the city center of La Rochelle. In addition, you will discover the beautiful village of Saint-Martin on the Island of Ré (1 hr boat ride from La Rochelle). Meet like-minded people and caring French teachers and experience a wonderful balance between fun and learning!

3-Day French Immersion Workshop: May 20, 21, 22, 2026

This workshop will last a total of 3 full days and will be filled with French learning group exercises in a very comfortable class setting in a beautiful and historical hotel. A couple of cultural activities will take place in the city and on île de Ré.

This restaurant-french-immersionexciting French immersion course is created and hosted by the founders and teachers of the French learning school: Learn French at Home, and editors of our French learning publication: French Accent Magazine: Céline and Vincent.

During these 3 days, the students will have the opportunity to practise their verbal skills in context, learn about French culture and meet other like minded class mates.  Outdoor cultural activities will be organised as well to immerse the students in the French life and culture. A few grammar points will be reviewed and put into contexts with lively group exercises.

We will help you experience a wonderful and memorable time in this unique workshop. Many hours are spent into preparing the activities to ensure an interesting and fun experience for each participant. Most of the activities are organised in small groups and they are all performed in a very positive and friendly environment.

16 participants maximum.

Exquisite lunches are included everyday.

For the ones who wish to continue to socialise in French in some of the evenings, they will have the option to join us for dinner in one of the restaurants in town.

Who is this event for ?

This French Immersion Retreat is for intermediate French level students. At this level, you already have learned the past tenses (imparfait, passé composé, plus que parfait), the future tenses as well as the conditional one and you wish to practise them in context. You know how to ask and answer questions on personal details, make requests, and hold basic conversations on familiar topics. You can describe situations, make suggestions and give directions.

Most of the activities are organized by groups and we create them according to the student’s French level.

What are you going to learn?

During this workshop, the lessons and activities might include the following (and more…):

-Question making in the past.

-Practising the prepositions of time: depuis, ça fait pendant, pour, il y a, en et dans.

-Vocabulary and verbs to describe what you see, smell and feel.

-Verbs in the conditional tense to make suggestions.

-Negatives to politely refuse something or to explain one’s position.

-Activities to work the comprehension skills with the everyday life language.

-Communication language in a real life setting in La Rochelle.

-Cultural discussions on French culture.

-A bit of history on La Rochelle.

La Rochelle – a unique destination

Not only will you be improving your French, but you’ll also experience a wonderful getaway at one of the west coast’s prettiest escapes.  There is no better place to immerse yourself in the French language and culture than in France, especially in this rich historical harbor town and its friendly French locals. Immerse yourself in the beautiful iconic 14th century towers and the old town with its half-timbered medieval houses and Renaissance architecture including arcades covered by 17th-century arches.

For the lovers of fine cuisine, you will be amazed by the fantastic marché (our French team even claims that it’s actually the most beautiful covered market of France) with its enticing displays of seafood, fruits, cheese, etc. and its friendly vendors. The oysters enthusiasts will find themselves trying a huge variety of them since La Rochelle is known for its oyster production. Indulge in one of the many unique restaurants of the city.

The classes will take place in a 16th century building, Le Champlain. It was formally a convent and was recently renovated, this sublime building was recently renovated into a hotel with meeting rooms. We will be using two of the meeting rooms and the participants of the workshop are welcome to stay in the hotel, the rooms are not only superb and comfortable but they are also very reasonably priced (there will be a discount on rooms for workshop attendees).

Half Day excursion on the beautiful Ile de Ré

1 hour by boat from La Rochelle, you will discover the charming little town of Saint-Martin-de-Ré on the beautiful island of Île de Ré. Surrounded by 17th-century Vauban fortifications (a UNESCO World Heritage site), this harbor town features cobbled streets, lively cafés, and elegant boutiques. The entire island is known for its charming villages, whitewashed houses with green shutters, salt marshes, sandy beaches, and for the gorgeous hollyhocks. During this half day, you will actively participate in a group French activity that will give you the opportunity to discover this enchanting town.

What to expect from our workshops

The French Immersion Workshops will take place in the beautiful city center of La Rochelle, France.

The details of the workshops will be sent to the participants a month before the event, but you can expect the following:

french-immersion-workshop-Classes will take place in the Champlain hotel. You  will engage in hours of language building skills in the classroom every day.
The activities will include comprehension and verbal expression work, grammar points, everyday life and idiomatic expressions, all put into context through projects, games and exercises in mini groups.

During the 3-day  immersion workshop, you can expect cultural activities and a few half day field trip excursions with language learning objectives.

-Lunch will take place either the hotel or in a restaurant in the city center of La Rochelle.

-Dinners are optional, depending on if you wish to continue to socialise in French during the evenings.

3-day workshop payment schedule:
Deposit of $500 / 500€ / £500 / 500CHF at registration. The remaining payment will be due mid-April 2026. An invoice will be sent to you at that time.

Cancellation policy:

3-day workshop: the deposit is 100% fully refundable before March 20th, 2026. After that date, the deposit is non refundable.
After April 20th, 2026, the full workshop price is not refundable, but it can be transferred to another person.
