Online medical French course with a private French tutor to communicate with your French-speaking patients.

You are a doctor, a nurse, a medical student and you need to study French to be able to communicate in a medical French speaking environment. Every French medical course is tailored to your French learning medical needs. Here are some examples of topics that can be covered in a course:

• Learn how to formulate questions with confidence while examining a patient.
• How to give instructions to your colleagues and how to interact in general in a medical or health care social context.
• Learn the French Medical language with expressions and idioms used in directing a meeting, giving suggestions, proposing viewpoints, expressing your concerns.
• Learn the language needed to read the biological test results.
• Make a presentation or a speech.
• Prepare for a medical related job interview in French. We can also help you translate and adapt your curriculum vitae into French.
• How to answer questions regarding the health of a patient.

For anyone who has at least a pre-intermediate French language level (someone who can already converse in basic everyday life situations).

After evaluating your current French level and your objectives with an advisor, a teacher will arrange with you a one-to-one 60-minute French lesson at a day and time most convenient to you. The lesson will be online via Skype or Zoom.

The French teacher will prepare the content of the classes depending on your learning objectives.  For examples, students find role-plays between a doctor and their patients very effective.  Learning the professional language, the polite forms and putting into context when communicating with medical staff members is also very useful.  Placing the student in a situation where she or he has to describe an X-ray is a very good way to learn and clarify the language. Going over medical journals, research articles, leaflets for medical products and other relevant writing will help to improve your reading and comprehension skills. Explaining a lab or any medical report to the teacher in French will give you confidence in doing it properly, etc. Grammar points will be reviewed or introduced when needed.

At the end of the lesson, you will schedule your next lesson date directly with your teacher.

After each lesson, the teacher will send about 1hr of homework for the student to complete before the following lesson. A French teacher will correct your homework. (Most private language schools do not offer this additional work but it is crucial in order to make real progress!) The homework’s purpose is to allow the student to practice the new elements taught during the lesson as well as to acquire new vocabulary and idiomatic expressions.

The minimum commitment for this French medical course is only 4 lessons!
Your learning package will be added to your profile and the lessons will be taken at your own pace. Once you’ve finished your package, you can continue learning by renewing your package.

Learn French at Home has created a series of e-books with audio links in order to practice your verbal comprehension skills. The eBooks also include grammar exercises. These e-books are mostly used for homework assignments. Your French teacher will inform you which package of eBooks to order. Your chosen eBooks will depend on your French level and your French learning objectives.
