Learn French Idiomatic Expressions and have fun
The bell (la cloche) is unhappy. This beautiful creation, that is essential both in churches and around the necks of cows in the beautiful pastures of France, also has its dark side: to say that someone is une cloche means that they’re totally stupid. The cow (la vache) herself complains loudly of the very negative and unkind image she has in so many expressions. The violin (le violon), that stars in classical music concerts or in romantic movies, doesn’t appreciate being frequently used to refer to a jail. On the contrary, the monstrous canon (le canon), who is only useful in wars, can hardly believe he is frequently celebrated as a symbol of beauty and success. While the owl (la chouette), this bird is, as we know, not quite as elegant as a heron or a swan, has become the equivalent of the nicest and cutest thing to say!
“Pas touche à mon nom” (Hands off my name) gives a voice, with humor and witty style, to objects, animals and plants whose names are misused in metaphors and idiomatic expressions that flourish in the French language. Some of these “victims” rebel against the misuse of their names, while others rejoice in it. A lighthearted and educational look at the peculiarities of our vocabulary!
Each word is accompanied with an expressive and very funny full-page color illustration.
